The Denver Zoo is a beautiful enclosure located in downtown Denver, Colorado. Just as a disclaimer, many of the exhibits are closed down over the winter season compared to the summer season.

After going through the entrance, Sammy and I turned left into what appeared to be an African Sahara type outdoor exhibit with many of the animals not outside. We were lucky enough to encounter a pride of lions, one of which is shown below.

As we made our way through the barren and icy outdoors, we stumbled across the Tropical Discovery building which was indoors and very humid to keep the animals happy. Amongst the snakes, fish, and frogs, we found a lone capybara sitting and enjoying life.

Venturing back outdoors, we found a show with the two elephants Chuck and Jack. The two were very cute and well-behaved as a large crowd gathered to bear witness to a standard elephant training session. The announcer mentioned something about positive reinforcement as the elephants were given food when performing the right motion.

We spent a lot of time with the elephants, but finally decided to take a break and eat the lunch we packed. Once we finished that, we navigated through the rest of the zoo only to find that much of the exhibits were closed. We did get to see many primates and marsupials in Emerald Forest exhibit, and a lone penguin near Monkey Island, but that just about wraps up our experience at the Denver Zoo.

All in all, we found this to be a great experience and would love to return in another season when more animals may be out.
